About Dominique Walterson

I am a BACP registered Psychotherapist with a private practice in Glasgow. My approach is infused with compassion, gentleness and acceptance. I work with you, my clients to create a collaborative and safe therapeutic relationship. Together we explore and process emotions and experiences that trouble you today, so you can be happier. My therapeutic orientation is humanistic and experiential, primarily drawn from Emotion Focused Therapy. I provide psychotherapy to adult individuals.

I grew up in Belgium, where I worked in law and banking. I moved to Scotland as an adult and retrained as a psychotherapist, gaining an MSc in Psychotherapy at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

As a therapist, I not only use my academic knowledge to help you, but I also draw from my own life experience of abuse and post-traumatic growth. I strongly believe that everybody can heal and grow, given the right conditions of empathy and acceptance. 



Individual Therapy for Personal Growth

Some think that therapy is only for people who are unwell. I believe that we benefit from therapy in many different circumstances. Psychotherapy helps to reduce the impact of past experiences on us today. It helps us to understand why we are making certain choices or why we struggle with some relationships. Therapy brings us greater self-awareness and helps us to become more true to ourselves. Therapy is a powerful tool to achieve greater personal wellbeing and growth. Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) has been demonstrated to help untangle puzzling, ambiguous and unsettling emotions and to process them so that these are replaced by healthy, manageable emotions. We gradually discern our emotions more clearly and find it easier to trust them.

Online Therapy

Online therapy is a valid, tried and tested way of conducting therapy. Its advantages?  We have more time slots available; you don't need to travel and you can have therapy from the comfort of your own sofa. The challenges of online therapy? Technology can get in the way of our work and you need to have access to a suitable device. Most importantly, you need to be able to protect your privacy by setting up in a separate room where you won't be disturbed. Using earbuds helps. I use the Zoom platform, which is encrypted and does not keep a record of our sessions. I will help you set up the video session; you don't need to be tech savvy. 

I also offer telephone and email therapy, if you would prefer.

Therapy for expats in French or Dutch

In particular for expats, I can provide therapy in French or in Dutch. I am of Belgian origin and I am a native speaker of both languages. I also sometimes conduct therapy with clients who are not located in the UK.  Please contact me if you want to know more.

Indien U dit verkiest, kan ik ook therapie in het Nederlands aanbieden. Soms is het makkelijker over emoties in Uw moedertaal te praten. Ik ben als psychotherapeut in het Verenigd Koninkrijk geregistreerd.


How do I get started with therapy ?

The first step: get in touch with me via the contact form on this website (click on the green 'get in touch' button). You can also copy the email address below this section. It is helpful if you can give me a phone number and the best time/day to call you; otherwise I will reply via email.

Then we will talk on the phone, for about 15 minutes. We can discuss about what brings you to therapy and we will see whether I have slots available that would suit you. If we decide we might be a good fit for each other, we will make a provisional appointment for a first session.

Next, I will request your personal details;  I will email you my Therapy Agreement, Privacy Policy and a questionnaire. This gives you information on confidentiality, record keeping, GDPR, how to pay etc... It also gives me a better understanding of your situation.   

You confirm you want to proceed with your first therapy session by returning the completed documents and by paying for the first session. 

At the end of our initial session, if you're happy to continue, we will set up a second session and arrange to see each other weekly or fortnightly.   

Sessions last 50 minutes and cost  £60 - £70. Appointments are available from Monday to Friday, between 10AM and 7PM, usually at the same time every week. I operate a 24/48 hour cancellation policy.
